On the afternoon of July 8, 2022, at Dong Ho Eden Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City, FSI participated in the event “Meet – Exchange Digital Transformation and Viewpoints on Electronic Medical Records Implementation”. The program had the participation of IT-HCM members and leading experts in the field of digital transformation and health.
Accelerating digital transformation in the healthcare sector to bring more benefits to residents
The health sector’s goal by 2030 is to apply digital technology in most activities and services; forming a smart healthcare system with 3 main pillars: smart disease prevention, smart medical examination and treatment, and smart medical management. To achieve that goal, since 2020, the Prime Minister has approved the “National Digital Transformation Program up to 2025, with orientation to 2030”, thereby calling for the synergies from the society to help accelerate the digital transformation of the health field in particular.
The birth and popularity of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) was an important milestone in the digital transformation of the health field, to realize smart medical examination and smart medical management. Electronic medical records are becoming more and more popular because they possess many advantages compared to paper medical records, such as clear printing, not confusing medical orders, extracting medical records, extracting information on medical records for patients, and convenient and accurate scientific research.
Speaking at the event, Master Nguyen Vu Minh Duy said, “The implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) goes hand in hand with the implementation of electronic health records, helping the field to obtain complete health data of the people thoroughly and exactly. Thereby, people can grasp the information about the epidemic situation in the area, to promptly direct the prevention and control in particular; or forecast and make policies on better protection, care and improvement of people’s health”.
However, at present, the effectiveness of digital transformation in many medical facilities is still limited. Some shortcomings, such as the financial resources for medical IT applications are not high, software being applied but the database not being synchronized and interconnected, the human IT resources for health are still lacking.
Sharing successful EMR implementation experiences
Participated in the event “Meet-Exchange Digital Transformation and Perspectives on Deploying Electronic Medical Records” on July 8, 2022, in Ho Chi Minh City, there was the appearance of leading scholars and experts in the field of digital transformation and the medical field, notably Master Nguyen Vu Minh Duy and Master Nguyen Quoc Dinh, along with other experts from FSI – the leading digital transformation solution provider in Vietnam shared their practical experiences in the process of implementing EMR.
According to Master Nguyen Vu Minh Duy at the event: “In the past, when there was no EMR, doctors and nurses had to spend a lot of time recording information, test sheets, CT scans into paper medical records everyday, not to mention all the run back and forth between departments and leaders’ rooms to submit and sign relevant documents, now thanks to EMR, doctors’ and nurses’ work has reduced and saved lots of time, improved work efficiency, all the mentioned steps can be handled on the EMR software system.”
In addition, comprehensive digital technology applications (AI, Big Data, digital signing, IoMT, cloud computing …), and building an electronic, paperless, telemedicine hospital will force the responsibility of the hospital-related parties to ensure the authenticity of the transactions. These also give rise to a new problem: How can sensitive documents such as records, EMR, electronic contracts, electronic health insurance avoid legal risks and dangers of losing valuable evidence?
Sharing about the issue, Master Nguyen Quoc Dinh said “The implementation of electronic signatures, digital signatures used to sign electronic documents plays an important role in building electronic medical records and digital file repositories of the health sector”.
